Skirt Singapore: Ultimate Meat Experience

This is the most delicious meat I've ever tasted (see below)

Yes these are super yummy!

Okay, saya tidak melebih-lebihkan di kalimat di atas. Skirt restaurant memang punya menu kebanggaan dan salah satunya adalah daging yang saya coba, Blackmore 100% full blood Japanese wagyu.

Okay, I am not exaggerating in the sentence above. Skirt does have an ultimate menu and one of them is the meat that I tasted, Blackmore 100% full blood Japanese Wagyu. 

"If you're a meat lover, this is heaven"

Proses pengolahan daging di Skirt cukup berbeda. Sebagian menu di sini menggunakan daging yang telah melalui proses penuaan yang diatur sedemikian rupa, disebut aging process. Sejak awal masuk ke restoran ini anda dapat melihat daging di dalam kotak kaca yang digantung, dengan label jenis dan proses serta tanggal.

The way they process meat in Skirt is quite different. Some menu here using the meat that through aging process in certain way. From when you arrived here, you'll see meats hanging in the glass case with labels showing types, date and process.

Proses grill juga dapat kita lihat di dalam area restoran, menarik melihat langsung chef mengolah makanan. Meski sebagian proses persiapan dilakukan di area terbuka di dalam restoran, sama sekali tidak mengganggu detail interior. Tanduk kaca yang dipasang menjadi instalasi di langit-langit adalah detail favorit saya di Skirt, it just so pretty.

We can even see the grilling process at the inside area. Its interesting to see the chef do their thing inside the dining area. Although some dine preparation is done in this area, it doesn't make the interior seems weird. What I love about the interior are the glass horns mounted into the ceilings like an art installation, it just so pretty.

The milk-fed lamb and venison are some of the pride menu of Skirt which taken care directly by Chef Andrew Nocente. I really enjoyed the meat tasting plate with 5 different types of meat.

Meet More Sea Creatures At SEA Aquarium

Saya rasa hampir semua orang senang melihat kehidupan laut. Saya ingat saat kecil datang ke SEA World di Ancol, Jakarta, dan tidak mau pulang sangking senangnya melihat semua binatang laut. Saat itu saya belum menyelam tentunya dan display aquarium semacam itu adalah media bagi siapapun untuk mengetahui alam bawah laut tanpa perlu menyelam.

I think almost everyone excited seeing the marine life. I remember when I was a child and went to SEA World in Ancol, Jakarta. I was so happy seeing all those sea animals and just don't wanna go home. At that time I don't have my diving license yet of course, and those kind of aquarium helps everyone to know and see the underwater world without diving.

Southeast Asia Aquarium atau SEA Aquarium di Sentosa, Singapura kini menjadi area display alam bawah laut terbesar, dengan total 42,8 juta liter air laut beserta 100.000 hewan laut dari 800 spesies. Saya membayangkan jumlah sebanyak itu, terdiam, dan masuk ke area kompleks SEA Aquarium.

Southeast Asia or SEA Aquarium Aquarium in Sentosa, Singapore is now the largest underwater world display, with a total of 42.8 million liters of sea water along with 100,000 marine animals of 800 species. I imagine that numbers, and go into the SEA Aquarium area.

Pintu masuk ke area SEA Aquarium adalah semacam teater, menampilkan seakan akan kita berada di dalam kapal besar yang terkena badai dan tenggelam, masuk ke dalam lautan.

The entrance to the SEA Aquarium area is a kind of theater, and it will show as if we were in the big boat hitting a storm and sank, into the ocean.

The wreck

Saat pertama masuk anda akan melihat aquarium dengan kapal karam di dalamnya. Ini adalah Zona Selat Karimata dan Laut Jawa, dengan bangkai kapal dan rombongan ikan yang mendiami kapal tersebut.

When you first enter this area you will see the aquarium with a shipwreck on it. This is the Karimata Strait Zone and the Java Sea, with wrecks and fishes that inhabit the shipwreck.

Peeking the colorful corals

Masuk semakin dalam kita dapat menemukan display koral indah berwarna warni. Di area yang masuk dalam kategori Selat Malaka dan Laut Andaman ini kita dapat melihat langsung dan bahkan memegang beberapa binatang laut seperti bintang laut. Namun, jika menyelam jangan pernah memegang binatang laut atau apapun.

Go deeper then we can find display of colorful coral reefs. This is the Strait of Malacca and Andaman Sea zone which there are a touch discovery pool for people who wants to touch some starfish. But remember, do not ever touch any marine animal when you dive.

Ada banyak zona di dalam SEA Aquarium, dibagi berdasarkan habitat dan area sesungguhnya di berbagai lautan di dunia ini. Misalnya, saat masuk ke Zona Teluk Benggala kita bisa melihat area mangrove, atau melihat ubur ubur di Zona Ocean Journey.

SEA Aquarium is divided by habitats and zones, based on areas of the world oceans. For example, when you enter the Bay of Bengal zone we can see the mangrove area, or see the jellyfish in Ocean Journey Zone.

Masih di zona yang sama, kepiting laba laba raksasa yang biasanya ada di laut dalam bisa disaksikan disini.
 
Still in the same zone, you can see giant spider crabs that usually inhabit the deep sea.

Open Ocean

Tapi, pusat dari SEA Aquarium adalah Open Ocean, yaitu aquarium dengan panel terbesar di dunia dimana anda dapat melihat banyak hewan laut mulai dari rombongan jackfish hingga manta.

But, the center of the SEA Aquarium is the Open Ocean, the largest aquarium panel in the world where you can see many marine animals ranging from group of jackfish until to manta rays.

Sejujurnya saya lebih senang melihat binatang binatang ini di laut sesungguhnya, namun saya sadar bahwa tidak semua orang punya kesempatan untuk menyelam, tidak semua orang dapat menyelam dan memiliki waktu untuk menyaksikan langsung keindahan bawah laut.

To be honest I'd love to see these animals in the sea way better than in an aquarium, but I realized that not everyone had the opportunity to dive, not everyone can dive and has time to witness the beauty beneath the sea.

Meski tidak seindah alam bawah laut sesungguhnya, SEA Aquarium memberi sepotong sensasi bawah laut yang layak dicoba, and I kindda enjoy it also :)

Although it's not as beautiful as the real underwater world, SEA Aquarium giving a sensation of underwater which worth a try, and I kindda enjoy it also :)

Biggest Aquarium, How To Handle?

Bayangkan 18 juta liter air dengan sebagian sisi ditahan dengan panel bening sehingga anda dapat melihat ke dalam dimana lebih dari 50 ribu hewan laut tinggal disitu. Bayangkan pembuatan aquarium dengan panel pandang selebar 36 meter dan tinggi 8,3 meter.

 
Imagine 4,7 million gallons of water detained with see through panel so you can see inside where more than 50 thousand marine animals live. Imagine how they make a gigantic aquarium, 118 feet wide and 27 feet high.

Bagaimana cara membuatnya, berapa lama mengisi airnya, setebal apa panel itu, bagaimana membersihkannya, mengisi dan memberi makan ikan dan berbagai makhluk laut di dalamnya, semua pertanyaan itu muncul saat berhadapan dengan panel di aquarium terbesar di dunia, SEA Aquarium, khususnya di depan Open Ocean, salah satu area "aquarium" terbesar di kawasan SEA Aquarium, Sentosa, Singapura.

 
How do they built it? how long does it took to fill the water? how thick are the panels? how to clean it up, fill or even feed the fishes and other marine animals inside it? All those questions just rise up when I'm facing the biggest viewing panel of an aquarium in the world, the SEA Aquarium, precisely the Open Ocean, one of the aquarium in SEA Aquarium, Sentosa, Singapore.

Open Ocean adalah pusat dari SEA Aquarium, dengan lebar panel salah satu sisi yang saya sebutkan di atas. Panel bening yang jadi sisi atraksi utama seakan menyatu, tanpa terlihat ada garis penyambung. Saya mesti melihat sangat dekat ke salah satu titik dan menggeser pandangan ke kiri dan kanan titik itu untuk melihat sambungan antar panel di platform pandang tersebut.

 
Open Ocean is the main attraction of the SEA Aquarium, with the size of the panel I've mentioned above. The clear panel which is the main attraction looked so converged, it's very had to see the connecting line between panels. I really have to look closely to one side and shifting my head right to the left to see the connecting line.

Sebuah garis terlihat sangat kasat mata, anda perlu memicing dan bergerak sedikit kemudian melihat ketebalan panel. "70 sentimeter," ujar Anggi Permatasari yang menemani saya. Panel pandang terbesar di dunia ini mencapai berat 250 ribu kilogram atau setara berat 30 gajah afrika, wow that's heavy!

Almost not visible at all, you must focused your eyes and move a bit to see how thick the panel is. "2,2 feet," said Anggi Permatasari who accompanied me telling how thick the panels are. The weight of this biggest viewing panel in the world reached 551 thousand pound, equal with about 30 adult African elephant, that's heavy!

"Setiap hari ada divers yang membersihkan aquarium ini," ujar Anggi saat saya bertanya bagaimana cara membersihkan habitat hewan laut buatan seluas ini. "Dibersikan di saat bukan jam operasi," tambah Anggi. Saya membayangkan perlu berapa lama dan berapa divers untuk membuat panel panel bening ini tetap bersih.

 
"Every day there are divers cleaning the aquarium," said Anggi when I asked how to clean this aquarium. "They clean it when during non operate hour for visitors," Anggi added. Then I'm thinking about how long and how many divers to get this panel clean all the time.

50.000 marine animals inside

Sementara air laut tempat hidup hewan laut sebanyak 18 juta liter ini juga diganti secara berkala. "Langsung dari air laut namun di filter terlebih dulu agar bersih dari bakteri atau elemen yang berbahaya bagi hewan laut disini," tambah Anggi. Sama halnya dengan aquarium di rumah kita, air laut di dalam Open Ocean ini tentunya harus diganti secara berkala.

Also, the water for the marine animals to live is also filtered and replaced periodically. It's about 4,7 million gallons of sea water. "We got the water from the sea but it through filter process so that the water is totally clean and safe for these marine animals, no bacteria or elements which may harm those fishes," Anggi explained. Just like aquarium in our home, the water inside the tank must replaced periodically.

Sedangkan makanan makhluk laut ini rupanya dipersiapkan secara khusus oleh ahli nutrisi SEA Aquarium, saya melihat makanan berbentuk bulat yang langsung dikerubuti ikan ikan laut ini saat saya masuk ke dalam aquarium untuk Sea Trek, namun ada makanan makanan yang berbeda untuk hewan laut yang berbeda pula, kita tentu saja tidak bisa menyamakan makanan pari manta dengan makanan batfish.

 
As for food apparently specially prepared by SEA Aquarium nutritionist, I saw the food, round shape which immediately surrounded by the marine fish when I got inside the aquarium during Sea Trek, but there are also different foods for different marine animals, we certainly just can't give the same food for manta rays with the batfish.

Masih banyak hal lain yang ingin saya tanyakan, sayangnya saya tidak bisa bertemu tim teknis SEA Aquarium, mungkin saya bisa menghabiskan waktu berjam jam untuk bertanya dan bertanya tentang habitat laut buatan yang begitu mempesona ini.

There are still many other things I really want to ask, unfortunately there are no technical guy around to ask. I might spend countless hours to ask and ask about this breath taking artificial marine habitat.

Memang habitat asli jauh lebih indah, namun melihat manusia sanggup membuat sepotong keindahan ini ada di darat dan dapat melihat begitu dekat, you'll be amazed.

 
I still think that the natural habitat is way more beautiful, but look at this and realize that human are capable to built this beautiful marine life which are accessible to see so close, you'll be amazed.

Sea Trek Adventure, Berjalan di Dalam Aquarium Terbesar

Saya sudah terbiasa diving jadi disaat saya ditawarkan untuk mencoba Sea Trek Adventure, saya sedikit malas. Bagi saya memakai semacam helm untuk masuk ke dalam air adalah perkara rumit, saya sudah terbiasa dengan masker dan mengambil napas dari regulator sehingga memakai helm sama sekali tidak terpikirkan. Namun saat di Adventure Cove Waterpark, semua di group saya belum pernah diving dan Sea Trek adalah cara bagi yang belum bersertifikasi selam untuk menikmati keindahan "laut" buatan di Marine Life Park, Sentosa, Singapura.

Being a diver, trying Sea Trek Adventure wasn't a temptation for me, in fact, I'm a bit lazy to try it. For me, wearing a helmet to get into the water seems complicated. I'm used with the mask and regulator to breathe so I never think about wearing a helmet to get into the deep water. But during my visit to Adventure Cove Waterpark, all the people in my group haven't tried diving before and Sea Trek in Marine Life Park, Singapore is a way to enjoy the beauty of marine life without a diving certificate requirements.

Briefing first

Tidak rela hanya mengamati yang lain dari atas, saya putuskan untuk ikut "repot" memakai helm dan perkakas, yang sebenarnya lebih simple dibandingkan diving karena tidak perlu membiasakan diri bernapas dari mulut, atau mask clearing saat air masuk ke dalam masker.

Well, not willing to just observe from the surface, I decided to join the hassle to wear a helmet and tools which is actually are simpler than diving since you don't have to get yourself used breathing through the regulator or mask clearing when the water gets inside your mask.

Banyak prosedur Sea Trek yang sama dengan diving, karena masuk ke kedalaman meski hanya 3 meter, instruktur mengajarkan cara equalisasi atau menyeimbangkan tekanan di kuping dengan cara menghembuskan napas dari hidung sambil menekan hidung agar terututup, atau menggerakan rahang dan menelan ludah. Prosedur lain adalah cara komunikasi di dalam air, mulai dari tanda oke dengan menyatukan telunjuk dan jempol membentuk huruf "O" hingga tanda jempol ke atas untuk naik.

A lot of procedures of Sea Trek are similar with diving. Even you'll only get into 3 meters depth, the instructor will teach you how to equalize the pressure in your ears which are by exhale through your nose while pushing your nose using your fingers or just moving your jaws or even swallowed your saliva. Another procedure is the how to communication underwater, ranging from okay sign with the thumb and forefinger unite to form the letter "O" until thumbs ub to sign that you wanna go up to the surface.

Last briefing before going into the aquarium

Layaknya diving, kami memakai wetsuit yaitu pakaian yang terbuat dari bahan neoprene yang mampu menahan panas tubuh di dalam pakaian. Namun saya tidak perlu memakai pemberat karena helm yang dipakai pun sudah berat, total berat satu helm ini 32 kilogram. Namun tenang saja karena saat di dalam air berat helm ini menjadi 6 kilogram, masih cukup berat bagi saya yang terbiasa diving dengan pemberat 3 kilogram.

Just like diving, we gotta wear wetsuit which is a suit made of neoprene material that can hold your body temperature underwater. But I don't have to wear any weight belt since the helmet is already around 70 pounds, but when it gets underwater it became 13 pounds which is still heave for me who used with 6,6 pounds weight belt during dive.

Kami turun perlahan di tangga dan saat bahu sudah berada di dalam air, helm dipasangkan perlahan. Selang tabung oksigen disambungkan perlahan dan membuat suara "POP" di dalam helm, maka oksigen sudah mengalir dan saya dapat turun perlahan.

We enter the aquarium through the stairs and when your shoulder is in the water, the staff will help you wear the helmet. When oxygen hose are connected, you'll hear a "POP" sound and it means the oxygen are ready and flowing through your helmet. Then, you can descent slowly.

Sea Trek Adventure di Resort World Sentosa menawarkan pengalaman turun ke kedalaman 3 meter di dalam aquarium terbesar di dunia, yaitu South East Asia Aquarium yang biasa disebut SEA Aquarium. Total air yang dapat ditampung di aquarium ini sebanyak 18,2 juta liter air yang menjadi rumah bagi sekitar 50.000 ikan dari 80 spesies yang berbeda.

The water tank can hold up to 4,8 million gallons of water which became a home for about 50,000 fish of 80 different species .

Jadi, meskipun turun di aquarium, bertemu banyak sekali ikan adalah jaminan, mulai dari eagle ray, puluhan batfish, hingga big manta dan napoleon wrasse. Meski perlu beberapa lama untuk membiasakan pandangan di dalam helm dan berjalan dengan tambahan beban 6 kilogram, berada di dalam SEA Aquarium sangat menyenangkan. Ikan ikan ini seakan menyambut saat kami masuk ke dalam aquarium. Pari manta beberapa kali melewati kami, hingga ikan besar Goliath yang muncur dari bawah secara tiba tiba.

Although you're only inside the aquarium, meeting a lot of fish is a total guarantee here. From eagle ray, dozens of batfish and even big manta rays and napoleon wrasse. It will take you a moment to get used to walk with the extra load of 13 pounds but being in this aquarium is a great feeling. Those fishes seems like welcoming us from the moment we walked into the water. Manta rays passing by a few times, a lot of fishes swimming through you and also the big Goliath which suddenly came from below.

Sea Trek sangat saya anjurkan untuk yang belum pernah diving karena tanpa sertifikasi anda dapat menikmati berada di tengah hiruk pikuknya makhluk laut. Cara yang sangat mudah dan aman tentunya membuat aktivitas ini tidak sulit dicoba. 

I really suggest trying Sea Trek for those haven't try diving before. Without any dive certificate you can enjoy being in the middle of crowded marine life. An easy and safe way without any difficulties to try.

Snorkeling Tanpa ke Laut

Saya selalu meracuni siapapun yang saya temui untuk menyelam, mencoba menikmati keindahan laut yang biru dan beragam keindahan makhluk laut yang ada di dalamnya.

I always persuade anyone I met to start diving, to enjoy the beauty of the blue sea and the diversity of sea creatures on it.

Diving memang bukan perkara mudah, anda perlu belajar terlebih dahulu, mengenal alat untuk mengakomodir olah raga ini, serta mendapatkan sertifikasi untuk dapat menyelam di berbagai lokasi penyelaman. Selain itu, diving dipandang cukup mahal selain karena memerlukan berbagai perangkat, sewa kapal dan bahkan tiket menuju lokasi penyelaman yang cukup jauh dari ibukota Jakarta di Indonesia.

Diving is not easy, you need to learn first, making yourself familiar with the gears to accommodate this water sports and also getting diving license to be able to dive in various diving spots.t dive sites. Beside that, diving is also considered as an expensive sports since it requires gears, boat rental and even plane tickets to get into great dive sites which is quite far from Jakarta in Indonesia.

Cara pertama membuat seseorang cinta laut adalah dengan melihat keindahannya, menikmati beragamnya warna di lautan dan paling mudah adalah dengan snorkeling karena anda tidak perlu bisa berenang, anda tidak perlu dapat menahan napas, anda tidak perlu mengeluarkan banyak tenaga. Cukup memakai masker, snorkel dan fin maka tinggal membenamkan muka ke dalam air, bernapas melalui snorkel sambil menikmati keindahan ragam koral dan satwa laut yang berada dekat dengan permukaan.

The first way of making someone love the sea is by let them see how beautiful it is, by letting them witness how rich the colors in the ocean and the easiest way is by snorkeling since you don't have to be able to swim or holding your breath and also it doesn't require a lot of energy. Just wear the mask, snorkel and fins, let your face burrowed down in the water, breath through the snorkel and enjoy the beauty of corals and fishes near the surface.

Namun rupanya keindahan yang tadinya mesti didapatkan hanya di laut kini dapat dinikmati di daratan. Ya, saya sebut daratan karena sensasi snorkeling disini tidak perlu pergi ke laut meski terletak di area pesisir pantai.

But apparently the beauty which must be obtained only at the sea can now be enjoyed without going to the sea. Yes, the sensation of snorkeling here isn't something you must go to the sea first, though it is still located in the coastal area.

Di Adventure Cove Waterpark, Sentosa, Singapura, ada satu sensasi snorkeling buatan. Kenapa saya sebut buatan? karena kolam luas penuh ikan ini sepenuhnya buatan manusia, meski ikan ikan di dalamnya yang berwarna warni ini tentunya asli. Beragam koral buatan ditanam di kolam Rainbow Reef, lengkap dengan ikan ikan yang biasanya anda temui saat snorkeling yaitu damselfish, anthias hingga angelfish yang berwarna warni.

 
At Adventure Cove Waterpark, Sentosa Island, Singapore, you can feel the sensation of some kind of "artificial" snorkeling. Why do I called that artificial? since the pond full of fish is entirely man-made, although the fishes is of course real. Variety of man made hard corals are planted inside the pond, complete with fishes you usually see when snorkeling at the sea such as damselfishes, anthias and also angelfishes.

Kolam Rainbow Reef dibuat lebih tinggi dari lantai dan di sebagian sisi terdapat kaca untuk melihat isi kolam yang penuh dengan ikan laut berwarna warni. Bagi keluarga dengan anak kecil, ini adalah tempat ideal untuk pengenalan satwa laut dan semacam simulasi untuk snorkeling yang sesungguhnya di laut kemudian hari.

This Rainbow Reef pond is protrudes, higher than the floor and at some side of the pond you can see rectangle glass to see inside the pond which is filled with colorful fishes. For families with young children, this is an ideal place to introduce some marine fish and also some kind of simulation for the real snorkeling in the sea later.

Sayangnya Rainbow Reef ini sangat menarik bagi pengunjung Adventure Cove Waterpark, yang berarti saya harus mengantre untuk menikmati satu keliling mengitari kolam. Jika mau lebih puas, rasanya mesti minimal mengitari kolam ini dua putaran, jadi cobalah untuk datang tidak di masa puncak liburan atau weekend jadi anda bisa menikmati snorkeling mudah dengan maksimal.

Unfortunately this Rainbow Reef is very attractive to visitors, which meant that I had to queue first before enjoying one laps around this pond. I think to be satisfied, you must try at least two laps around the pond, so if you have options, try not to come during holiday peak or weekend so you can enjoy this place even more.
